Get in the Act delivered their innovative Science Theater Program to
second, third and fourth-grade students at Carlin Elementary School on
December 9 and 10, 2024.
Get in the Act adds the Arts to S.T.E.M. learning - transforming
S.T.E.M. to S.T.E.A.M. - with their hands-on theater framework serving
as a pathway to science for students.
Led by Teaching Artist Diane Handzel, students use dynamic theater
techniques as a learning framework to examine rocks, mineral and soil
concepts. The workshops allow every student to actively participate in
hands-on dramatizations that connect learning to their everyday world.
Because students have a memorable experience acting out a scene, they
learn and retain the content associated with that scene.
Get in the Act would like to thank Komatsu Mining Foundation, Nevada
Gold Mines, Kinross Nevada, Nevada Arts Council and the National
Endowment for the Arts for supporting Science Theater at Carlin.
Also, a special thank you to Vice Principal Smithburg, as well as the
secretaries and classroom teachers for being wonderful and supportive
partners.
“The program was every engaging and fun.” Mrs. Cross, 2nd Grade Teacher
“I loved this program for my students. They had the opportunity to learn
new concepts through a hands-on experience. They absolutely loved Miss
Diane and could not wait to come back for day 2!”
Mrs. O’Farrell, 3rd Grade Teacher
“Presents information in geology in a fun and exciting way that students
can relate to. I loved it, the kids loved it! Great program!
Mrs. Graves, 4th Grade Teacher
Get in the Act is a 501(c)3 organization based in Dayton, Nevada and
their Science Theater Program has served over 30,000 students since
2009. They can be reached at email: info@getintheact.org
K- 12th GRADE EARLY OUT TODAY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27th @ 1:45
Dear Carlin Combined Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of an important update regarding the security of our campus. In line with Elko County School District policy and in alignment with other campuses within the district, our school is taking steps to enhance campus security and ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Effective immediately, all exterior doors and surrounding gates on campus will remain locked during school hours. This measure is being implemented to limit unnecessary traffic on campus and help ensure a safer learning environment. While we welcome parents and visitors when necessary, we strongly encourage keeping visits to a minimum so that our students can remain focused on their learning.
Both the high school and elementary campuses will be accessible through one secure point of entry, located in the main courtyard. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to create a more secure campus for everyone.
Please note, that there is no immediate or new threat that has prompted this change; rather, we are simply following district policy to align with best practices across all schools in the district.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and productive environment for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to the school office.
Thank you!
Don't forget to come out and support these Drama Students tonight @ 6pm in the multi-purpose room. They are also performing Saturday @ 2pm & 6pm. Tickets sold at the door.
