CARLIN — After a pair of home victories by scores of 18-8 and 8-7 in non-league contests, the Wells baseball team downed Carlin for the third and fourth times in 1A North ballgames.

On Tuesday, neither of the games went the distance as the Leopards rolled over Carlin 16-1 in five innings and 20-2 after the third.

Game One

Wells wasted no time blowing up the scoreboard with 13 runs in the top of the first inning, one in the third and two in the fifth.

Carlin’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth.

For the Leopards, senior Miguel Martinez hit a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, five RBI and two runs.

Junior Luis Garcia batted a clean 3-for-3 with a double, drove in four runs and scored twice.

Junior Teagan Calton went 2-for-3 with two RBI and crossed two times.

Senior Cesar Berumen (triple, RBI and a run), sophomore Marcus Uhart (run scored) and sophomore Christian Salazar all finished 1-for-1.

Junior Tristen Zimmerman closed 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Sophomore Charley Peterson (double, RBI and a run), freshman Michael Aguilar (RBI and a run) and junior Gage Uhlig (RBI) all went 1-for-3.

Without a hit, freshman Raleigh Groves scored two runs.

In the win, freshman pitcher Dentin Allen allowed just three hits and struck out seven without a walk over four scoreless innings.

In relief, Berumen gave up an unearned run with three free passes and two Ks across one frame.

For Carlin, senior Landon Maffo hit a perfect 2-for-2.

Senior Jack Wines batted 1-for-2.

Without a knock, junior Tryston Martinez scored the lone run for the Railroaders.

In the loss, junior pitcher Jacob Stucki allowed 16 runs on 16 hits with five strikeouts and a walk over five innings.

The Leopards leaped to a quick start in the second game of the doubleheader once again, pushing across 10 runs in the first, seven in the second and three in the third.

The Railroaders plated one run in the home half of the first as Martinez crossed on a passes ball, and Wines scored on a single in the bottom of the third — taking second and third on a wild pitch and darting home on an error behind the plate.

For Wells, Uhlig hit a clean 3-for-3 with a double, drove in three runs and scored three.

Berumen batted 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBI, and Garcia also went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In total, five Leopards — Martinez (triple, two RBI and a run), Peterson (double, two RBI and two runs), Zimmerman (three runs) junior Adam Eggleston (two RBI) and junior CD Hunt (run scored) — all finished 1-for-1.

Aguilar closed at 1-for-2, scored two runs and drove in one.

Without knocks, freshman Landon Hall crossed three times, Allen scored twice and drove in a run and Groves came around twice.

Sophomore Aaiden Rogers tallied an RBI, and Calton scored a run.

In the win, Garcia allowed two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks over three innings.

For the Railroaders, Martinez, Wines and Maffo all hit 1-for-2.

Martinez and Wines scored one run apiece.

In the loss, Maffo allowed 17 runs — 14 earned — on 11 hits with one strikeout across two innings.

From the pen, junior Sebastian Anthony gave up three runs on two hits with two Ks and a pair of free passes in one frame.

The Railroaders will welcome Virginia City for a twin bill at 10 a.m. Saturday, in Carlin.

Game Two
