Spring Creek High School Recognized with Top Honors

at FBLA National Leadership Conference in Baltimore

Spring Creek High School, 06/26-07/02—More than 9,200 of America’s best and brightest high school students traveled to Maryland to Elevate Their Futures as they competed for the opportunity to win more than $175,000 in cash awards.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference was held June 28–July 1 in Baltimore. Participants from across the United States and abroad attended this exciting conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 70 business and business-related competitive events.

For the 1ST TIME in the advisers 8 years of advising and being a business teacher at SCHS, has a student placed in a performance event and this year we had 2 events!!!  There is less than a 1% chance of a student getting up on that stage in the top 10! Great job!!! Thank you to the Elko community, parents and Elko County School District for all your support!

Kierra Watson received national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence Program on July 1. She competed in Sales Presentation and brought home 7th place. Kierra chose to be a representative of the POSH company and as her first round judge told her “she was the first one to close the sale!” (They even clapped)!

Harrison Jones, Landi Goddard and Dionne Stanfill received national recognition at the FBLA Awards of Excellence Program on July 1. They competed in Broadcast Journalism and brought home 8th place. Great teamwork!

We had 19 competitors: Vyanette Lara in E-Portfolio, William Fallini-Haas in Hospitality Management, Shailee Anderson/Noah Harris/Michala Matovina/Aubrey Rigby in Parliamentarian Procedures, Sam Claridge in E-Business, Rae Ann Chaves in Emerging Business Issues, Hayden Binger/Garett Whimple/Chris DeAngelo in Global Business Management, Cheyenne Cleveland/Gracie Pepiot in Introduction to Business Presentations, Tiernan Rainey in Introduction to Business Presentations, Leah Heieie in Public Speaking and the four above named top 10 placements!

The award was part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and heard from motivational speakers on a broad range of business topics.
